The book I read was Umbrella Summer. The authors’ name is Lisa Graff. The genre of this book is comedy. I know this because the book was very funny. I chose this book because I read the synopsis and the book sounded well.
The theme for this book is to put your umbrella down because it will not always rain. That means you shouldn’t always worry. The characters of this story are a mix of boys and girls. The three boys are the dad, Doug Zimmerman and Tommie. The four girls are Rebecca, the mom, Mrs. Finch, and Annie, the girl this book is all about. The settings are Annie’s house, Mrs. Finch’s house, and Rebecca’s house. The plot is that Annie has just lost a brother, but now she is a little too careful. She wears a helmet in the car, wears bandages while she rides her bike, and a lot of other stuff. She needs help, and fast.
I like the book, but if I were to rate the book I’d give it an eight out of ten. The characters I liked were Rebecca, Doug Zimmerman, Annie, and Mrs. Finch. The characters I disliked were the mom, and the dad. My favorite part was when Rebecca and Annie tried to get into the haunted house and if there was trouble Annie had to whistle. Then after Mrs. Finch said is your friend spying on me and because Annie didn’t know how to whistle she yelled whistle, whistle, whistle. My other favorite part was when Annie sprayed everyone with a hose at the Sunbirds 4th of July car wash. The only thing I didn’t like about the book was it wasn’t long enough; there should have been more chapters and pages.
This book was really good. I actually have a friend reading it. I would recommend this book to children in grades 4-7. I haven’t read any other books written by Lisa Graff, but I would like to.

This story is Umbrella Summer by Lisa Graff. Do you like books with mysteries? In this book you will never know what happens next you have to keep reading.

This story starts when Mrs. Finch the new neighbor moves in. Annie Richards is so worried about dying since the death of her eleven year old brother. He died by getting hit by a hockey puck in the chest and something was wrong with his heart. Mrs. Finch and Annie become friends. Annie’s best friend is Rebecca. They thought Mrs. Finch’s house was haunted they always tried to get in. Later in the story Rebecca and Annie are enemies. Then after all they become friends again.

My favorite part is when Mrs. Finch tries to help get Annie and Rebecca back together. You will have to read the story to find out how.

If you don’t like this book I guarantee you won’t like any other book Lisa Graff writes.

  5. I think this is a great book. I think the author used great emotion. I liked that you never knew what was gonna happen next. My favorite part was when everything fell apart at once. The book is kind of funny at times.

My favorite part of the book is when Annie goes to the Junior Sunbirds carwash in her uniform that she wasn't suppose to wear. While she was washing a car Doug Zimmerman showed up on his bike asking for a wash instead of washing the bike they washed him.
I recommend this book to anyone who like sad stories with happy endings. I also recommend this book to people who can relate to Annie and her brother.

I loved this book. I liked how the characters helped each other out. this story is about friendship and how a girl, named Annie, needs help getting rid of her sadness. All she needed was a newneighbor and help from her friends. There was a very happy ending. I will definitely read this book again. :D

My favorite part in the book is when Annie makes her mom go in Jared's room, which has been locked up ever since Jared died. This is my favorite part because throughout the book it kept saying that the door is locked and I wanted to find out what his room looked like. When they go in it explains a lot about what the room looked like.

I would reccomend this book to 8-13 year olds. If you like stories where the characters change a lot throughout the book this is the book for you. I really loved this book. I hope there is a second book to this one.
