ReplyDeleteThis book was fantastic! Did anybody know that you should never jostle a jelly fish? Well, read this book and you will learn that and a lot more about dangerous animals. We would recommend this book to readers of non fiction who also enjoy learning facts about animals. We hope you enjoy reading this fascinating book as much as we did!

ReplyDeleteDo you think that every animal is nice? The book Never Smile at a Monkey proves this statement false! Believe it or not, the hippo kills more people in Africa than any other wild animal. A student in our class actually lost her grandfather this way!
ReplyDeleteWe also learned that the cone shell can be poisonous if handled. We hope that no one comes across one at a Rhode Island beach. We would recommend this book for anyone who likes animals and wants to learn more about them.

ReplyDeleteHere's some advice, if you are at the beach, don't pick up a cone shell! If you do, you could get poisoned and a trip to the hospital. Don't ever show your teeth to a monkey. It is a sign of a threat to monkeys. They might think you want to attack them! So the next time you visit the Roger Williams Zoo, never smile at the monkeys! One thing is for sure, all animals find a way to protect themselves.

ReplyDeleteWe also learned NEVER stare at a spitting cobra. If the spit gets in your eye, it can cause blindness! If you want to learn more dangerous animal facts, read this book. Our sixth grade class thought it was surprising and fantastic!

Do you want to learn what not to do to animals? Then you should read Never Smile at a Monkey by Steve Jenkins. This book is filled with crazy facts about things animals will do.
In this book there are facts about dangerous, unusual animals and what they will do to protect themselves. Their venom, spines, and claws can be hazardous to your health. If you start reading this nonfiction book you’ll be so hooked you won’t be able to put it down.
My favorite fact from the book is “never clutch a frog”. This is my favorite fact, because I think it’s amazing that a creature that everybody thinks is so cute can be so deadly.
If these facts don’t amaze you nothing will. But if you liked the book you could read more books by Steve Jenkins such as, Bugs are Insects. Remember you should never smile at a monkey.

Never Smile at a Monkey was an ok book. Some of the sayings were just common sense, like never stare at a spitting cobra. But I didn't beleive in all the superstitions. And what are the chances of you seeing a wild hippo, dangerous jellyfish, a stingray, a bear cub, a cobra, a buffalo, a blue ringed octopus, or even a platypus. And if you did, would you pet it, antagonize it, or swim with it?

ReplyDeleteI would not recommend this book for 2nd-5th graders,but I would recommend this to Kindergarten-1st grade.I think it just kept repeating like for instance it kept using the word never over and over again.I think Steve Jenkins should've made it more fascinating for younger students to be more interested in animals and facts about them.

I liked Never Smile at a Monkey because you think these animals are harmless but surprises come up. For example, a pufferfish looks harmless but if you pouch a pufferfish it will inflate into a prickly balloon and it contains a deadly toxin.

Also how to avoid them and others for example: never pet a platypus because the "peculiar looking animal appears harmless, even comical waddles about, the platypus, however , is the only poisonous mammal."

I liked Never Smile at a Monkey because there were so many exotic animals.
I liked Never Smile at a Monkey because it showed all the different animals and why to stay away from them.My favorite animal was the Rhesus Monkey because it was probablly the smallest animal in the book.

I really liked this book because it gave us a lot of information about animals that poison you or kill you!!!!!! My favorite animal is the squid : ) All the animals were really cool. I hope you enjoyed the book when you read it!!!!!!
